For us, MAKAN embodies the central idea that wine should be a catalyst for connection. It is the location where friends gather, the food that nourishes the conversation, and the feeling of coming home to a place of belonging. This is the spirit we bottle.
Origin
Wine found us in a moment of pure spontaneity, sparking a passion that introduced us to the diverse landscapes & incredible wine personalities of Southern Africa. It motivated us to embark on international expeditions – to comprehend its historic migration from the Eastern highlands to the Western frontier. It became the cornerstone of countless philosophical discourses & lasting friendships.
The trajectory shifted a decade later, during one extraordinary adventure to the Bot River region, a place which we had always overlooked but had finally chosen as our destination. There, we were guided to the Vitruvian Man – a destined gatekeeper who revealed the miraculous world beyond the tasting room. The surreal events which followed that encounter inspired the culmination of our brand: MAKAN, an artisanal collection of small-batch, limited-released wines.
